Core Values

Three core values I could not live without: altruism, passion and wisdom.

These three touchstones are my ideology of life. Altruism, a selfless concern for the welfare of others, is an important value when working in any "helping" profession. Passion, enthusiasm, is a very intense emotion or desire for someone or something. Passion brings excitement to life. Wisdom, deep understanding of people and things empowering the ability to choose or act to consistently produce the optimum results with a minimum of time and energy. Wisdom controls emotions (amydgala) and allows reason and knowledge (PFC) to prevail.

These core values are important as a leader because they are practices we should use or being using everyday in everything we do. These values underlie who we are and how we interact with each other.

Hello Leisure
It is very important that you have altruism as one of your core values. As directors we are servers to our children, parents, teacher, and communities, so we have the obligation to make sure our decisions are benefiting them the most. Wisdom to it is a hard one, but we know that most of the times the right decisions are already inside of us.
We all need to passion for what we do in order to give our best, do not let your passion die.

Lori I must say it seems as though you have picked very important values to uphold. I have to be honest, i didnt get as deep into the values I hold or perhaps the ones I can not live without. I did not touch on theses values in relation to their imporatnce as a leader. Even though I work in a "service" profession, I dont alaways consider myself a leader. Your blog has given me something to think about as I reevaluate my own core values.

You have great core values and we need these for great leadership. If you use them in your everyday life it would make great in a childcare environment as a director.

Hello,
I think that many core values are important for everyone especially as leaders we need to be able to apply most of our values to what we love. As a leader working with parents, children, staff, and the community work with is important to be altruism because of the profession we are working with. As for my core values are different I think that your explination of your values open my thoughts.
